WriterBabu is a writing platform for those that want to write something or for those that see writing simply as fun. It’s a social network of readers and writers with anonymity as its central theme.
WriterBabu is the philosophy of true and free expression of the writer within us. The unique way in which the structure is designed, attempts to ensure this freedom for the writer and an unbiased mindset for the readers. Writing anonymously, one can break free of their public image and the biases attached to their name, class, sex and origin. WriterBabu strives to provide a one stop destination for the writer within us.
Writing is relaxing. The old concept of personal diary was based on it. Writing clears out our thoughts and gives us direction. Writing is retrospection, a chance to learn from mistakes and improve. At WriterBabu one can have a personal or an open diary.
When someone writes a poem or a story, they have a particular feel, a particular style in their mind. Plain writing sometimes can’t convey the feelings totally. WriterBabu have a Voice feature where one can record their voice and narrate poems or stories in their own way.
Srijan Srivastava, an Electrical Engineer from IIT Delhi, had been the only one working on this project but recently an intern from IIT Delhi joined WriterBabu to work on the technical aspects of the website.
“My background in choreography at IIT Delhi inspired me. It involved intensive thinking and discussions over wide range of philosophical topics for theme selection and its depiction. Freedom of expression was my favorite. Also it had been my inner desire to write but inability to do so, for I had (still have) poor English, pushed me closer to the concept of WriterBabu,” says Srijan describing the thought that went behind WriterBabu. He feels that taking up entrepreneurship is more of an impulse than a conscious decision.
He wishes to develop an online book publishing platform for emerging writers. Readers can read online through paid subscription. The primary aim is to provide a good collaborative writing aid with the help of technology with a proper system of feedback and review even before publishing. Books can be made available at lower rates to the readers.
Srijan visualize immense potential in terms of the market size. He goes on to say that, the number of people who want to write is any day much much bigger than people who actually write. And number of aspiring writers is much much bigger than the number of even slightly famous writers. The target is to tap that market. The market is not that well defined hence innovative strategies will be needed. He plans to start with the college campuses first.
“The biggest challenge is to make it interesting and maintaining unbiased environment at the same time. They lie at opposite ends in social network context. Having no shoulders to cry on while being stuck in a piece of code is bit of a problem sometimes,” says Srijan.
